The U12 Girls were pitted against the all-conquering Croydon Borough Girls in the semi final of the Surrey County Cup. In front of terrific support for both teams at Dinton fields, the girls went at Croydon from the kick off, Lily finished a lovely sweeping move by smashing the ball into the back of the Croydon net. The girls were more than holding their own, with Hanna wining everything in defence, and the Croydon support were clearly worried. We survived a Geoff Hurst off the bar moment, and Anna pulled off several great saves, as we edged towards half time with the advantage. However, a lapse of concentration saw Croydon equalise, and after a great run by Rhianna had nearly ended in a second for us, Croydon broke straight back and edged ahead just on the stroke of half time. HT 1-2.
In the second half Croydon' s power began to tell and they pressed forward more and more. They added a third, before our player of the match, Hanna, was forced off having caught a stud in her knee. Two late goals followed, making the score 5-1. However, even the Croydon manager said that this flattered them, and paid us the compliment of saying that this was the toughest match they had had all season. Croydon are an outstanding team, and we really gave them a battle today. We should take great confidence from this performance, as we turn our attention back to the league.
